Jane`s Walks (www.janeswalk.org) organizes special walks and makes an event of it.
Participants enjoy themselves and benefit from meeting other walkers. Insiders provide tips on the neighborhood, sharing shortcuts and unknown spots. Sometimes residents meet their neighbors for the first time, share stories and aspirations. Commonalities are discovered. The Jane’s Walk always ends in a cafeteria or bar.
Sometimes new initiatives for pedestrians come to life. This all happens in a relaxed way, and everybody participates. Talking about what walking means to them. Many of these walks are organized in suburbs, and not exclusively on traditional friendly routes.
The walks are named after Jane Jacobs (1916 -2006), a legendary role model of how citizens can make a difference.
